Questions for Visiting Teaching

"Questions can lead to opportunities to give comfort, share relevant gospel principles, and provide meaningful service. You might ask: "What worries or concerns you?" Or you could be specific: "Could we help you with a household task?" "Would you like a ride to the store or a doctor's appointment?" Questions will often bring better results than simply saying, "Call us if you need anything." "

During Home Teaching

It might be appropriate to ask at the end of your visit, "Can we pray with you?" The head of the household should choose someone to say the prayer."

Clear on Doctrine

"We must be very clear on key points of doctrine, which we find in "The Family: A Proclamation to the World."

"This generation will be called upon to defend the doctrine of the family as never before. If they don't know it, they can't defend it. They need to understand temples and priesthood."

Julie B. Beck, "Teaching the Doctrine of the Family," Ensign, Mar 2011, 17.

No Place for Mediocrity

"I hope that you do not plan to be just common but that you plan to excel. There is no place in this world for mediocrity; we need to strive for perfection. You can obtain perfection in so many areas as you seek and work toward the goals you have established."

Elder L. Tom Perry, "The Great Plan of Our God," Ensign, Feb 2009, 66.

Balancing Time

President Gordon B. Hinckley outlined the responsibilities we should consider when allocating and balancing our time to achieve success:

  • A responsibility to our families.
  • A responsibility to our employers.
  • A responsibility to the Lord's work.
  • A responsibility to ourselves.
President Hinckley noted that we must allot time for rest, exercise, recreation, study, meditation, and temple worship in order to be balanced in our lives.
